MYSTICAL GALLOS STATUE KING ARTHUR TINTAGEL CORNWALL
The imposing life-size bronze sculpture Gallos stands guard like a watching sentinel on the rugged and remote cliff top headland of Tintagel Castle, North Cornwall, SW England, UK. Gull rock can be seen near Trebarwith Strand. Gallos, which means power in Cornish, could represent King Arthur holding a sword like Excalibur. The way the figure is constructed it appears hollow or see though giving it a mystical or quite ghostly or spectral appearance. The magical quality of the effect is enhanced by the tattered robes and armour it is wearing. The legends of King Arthur suggests that Tintagel is where Arthur was conceived by his father Uther Pendragon with Igraine, wife of Gorlois, Uther's enemy. Uther used Merlin's wizardy and deception to enter the castle disguised as Gorlois for his tryst. Taken one August.
